God’s Story Is Our Story: From Genesis To Jesusනියැදිය

Reflecting on the last week: By defeating Goliath, David made God’s power and name known among the nations. God’s mission, since Abraham, was to bless the nations. But the nations cannot be blessed by a God they do not know (Rom. 10:14), so it was imperative that Israel—as a holy nation and kingdom of priests—make him known. Sadly, when a giant warrior shows up, they fear him more than the LORD. David, however, does not. He understands that by defeating Goliath he will make the God of Israel known to the nations. In a truer and fuller sense, Jesus’ defeat of sin, the devil and death on the cross made the God of Israel known to the world. Today we are being invited into this mission. Jesus gives us his Spirit so that we can make disciples of the nations as we go about our lives. It is worth pondering: How do our actions (or inactions) at work or at home make God known? Our words? Our relationships? Do we cower like Israel, claiming that we trust Jesus, but never acting on it? Or do we trust Jesus, who toppled the Goliaths of sin and death for us, so much that we act boldly and virtuously for his name’s glory?
