Continuous Revelation Flows at the Heart of GodSample
When God says that He longs for us to know Him, then we can be assured that He made that possible. We can get to know God through what the Bible says, through the sermon of the minister, and through the experience other people had with God. But to know God personally, there’s something else needed. Something personal, intimate and inseparable. That’s why God gave His Spirit to dwell in us. It is the Spirit of truth Who searches, knows and reveals the depths of God to us. Yes…to You!
But why would you need revelation?
First so we can get to know God personally and have a relationship with Him. That was God’s plan from the beginning. Not a business relationship based on rational facts but a living relationship of love. A relationship that brings us to life and transforms us. A relationship in which we see a new piece of the Face of Jesus, again and again. Even pieces we might not have expected. There are sides to God that loves us, comforts us, raises us up and encourages us when we need it, even at times we don’t believe we deserve it. There are also sides of Jesus that give friction, sharpen us, shape us and mold us. We both really need it! There are even sides of God where we initially take offense to. People did that when Jesus was already on earth: the Scribes and Pharisees, but the disciples also. Jesus’ own friends were often challenged in their relationship with Him. Therefore, so are we… Having a relationship with Jesus is not for the faint of heart but for people who dare to be honest and sincere with God and with themselves.
Secondly, we need revelation of the One we want to present to the world around us. If God wants every human to know that Jesus is alive, and He wants to use us for that, we must know Who this living Jesus is ourselves. If we want to bring the world into an encounter with God, we ourselves need it to be in encounter with Him. We can only reflect Who He is if we see Him ourselves. Otherwise, it remains knowledge of the head and rational talking that brings people in religion instead of in relationship with God. That may seem like a shortcut, but it isn't God’s will. Just as God wants you to know Him, He wants others to know Him, too. We all see different sides of Who God is and He can use numerous ways to show Himself. All of those sides are necessary. The piece of God you reflect is needed to make Him completely visible on earth. You are indispensable and born for such a time as this to bring the world into an encounter with Jesus!
Thirdly, we need revelation to know God’s plan, His timeline and His will for our lives. Revelation reveals what is still in darkness, the lies and bondage as well as the gold God put in you. Revelation also exposes false teachings and wrong images of God. The enemy does the exact opposite of God. He conceals, masks, hides and stashes away. With one reason: so we will never completely know Who God is and who we are in Him. We would be life-threatening for the kingdom of darkness. Revelation roots you in God’s truth about your identity and gives you an unshakable foundation and direction for your life. Through revelation we see Who God is, who we are in Him and what His plan is with us, our surroundings and the earth.
How about you? Was there a moment where you heard God speak and without a doubt knew it was God? What was that like?
