Unlock Your Courage WithinSample
Recognize the Truth
Have you listened to someone teach the Bible and felt as if something wasn’t right? If so, did you take the time to search for the truth? Consider the apostle Paul’s warning in 1 Timothy chapter 6.
Paul urged Timothy to watch out for false teachers, for they were spreading lies and leading people away from God’s truth. Their motive to mislead was evident by their sinful behaviors, such as pride, “arguments…, jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions” (1 Timothy 6:4 NLT).
These false teachers were troublemakers who foolishly pursued wealth over integrity and only looked out for themselves. Their fake display of godliness was only a way to gain wealth. Paul advised that Timothy and other believers needed to prepare themselves to recognize the truth.
Therefore, it was imperative for them—and for us—to study and know God’s Word. That way, we can contradict and avoid any teaching that denies, ignores, or misrepresents the truth of Scripture.
Reflect: What courageous steps do you need to take to recognize God’s truth from worldly lies? Read 1 John 4:1, describe your current prayer and Bible study routine, and list the courageous changes you will make beginning today so that you can discern truth from error.
Pray: Father, I desire to know the difference between true and false teachings. Give me the desire and ability to know your Word and the courage to speak its truth.
