Still Standing While Wrestling With the DarkSample
Overcoming the Darkness
The loss of my marriage was devastating. Waves of fear, anger, embarrassment, worry, and sadness would sweep over me regularly. Worst-case scenarios would flash through my mind as the joyful, happy life I once knew was gone.
If you are going through the worst season of your life, I want you to know that I feel your pain. I know how scary it can be to face the unknown.
In Mark 4, Jesus was sleeping in a boat with his disciples when a storm broke out. Look at what happened.
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”
Mark 4:37–40 esv
In the midst of the storm, the disciples felt like Jesus did not care. But he did. Jesus got up and spoke to the wind and the waves and said, “Peace! Be still!” And then he looked at his disciples and essentially asked, Where is your faith?
Are you in the midst of a storm today?
Are you tempted to believe the lies of the enemy that say that God does not care?
The enemy wants to keep you in the darkness of these emotions. But you must let your faith overcome this darkness!
God cares.
So, what are you fearful about right now?
Peace is available today. Go to God and give him all your fears, and then go to him in his Word. His Word brings light into the darkness and freedom to those who are gripped with fear. His Word has the power to rid you of your anxious thoughts so you can walk in his peace, be free, and stand strong for another day.
