Sweet Aroma

In all of nature, we can appreciate the goodness and character of God. For many of us, there is nothing more beautiful, peaceful, or joyful than seeing a field full of colorful flowers. Their delightful aroma becomes fixed in our memory, evoking people, places, emotions, and lived situations.

Just like the flowers and the fields, we too can be a pleasing aroma to God when we listen to Him and follow Him in faithful obedience. Obedience leads us to see His Word and promises fulfilled in our lives; we can see His provision, healing, protection, and victory.

Victory doesn’t lead to the superficial riches we often desire but to the riches of the kingdom. The Word must be the one that shapes our view of victory, triumph, and riches so we can tune into God’s heart.

You see, our faithfulness is like an aroma, a pleasant fragrance to the Lord. As we walk through our lives, people notice it. It can capture your attention and make you contemplate its source. And a good perfume is impossible to hide; it’s impossible not to perceive it. When we walk through this life with the aroma of God, we join the beauty of nature, the diversity of human life, and the rest of the believers. We become a fragrant garden, the olfactory manifestation of the body of Christ. What we do as part of that body will perfect the rest.

Our shallow and short-sighted view of success is the result of our obsession with what we can see and touch. We focus more on what we can do than on who we are, and our focus should be the other way around.

Those of us who are children of God should show our faith and share the wonderful gift of salvation that we have received from God with all people. May believers and non-believers perceive the love of God in us.

Lord, I want everything I do and say to be infused with the aroma of Christ. Let it float in all my circumstances, around every person, and every place. Help me radiate the fragrance of Your kingdom to everyone who comes near me. Please sharpen my spiritual senses to smell Your fragrant aroma.
