Dream Devo - SEU Conference

DAY 2 OF 5

When God shares His dream with us, He expects us to be obedient to the dream. A dream is meaningless without obedience. A crucial part of the invitation to God’s dreams and visions for this world is the expectation to participate and help bring about the completion of His dream.

In Acts 10, the apostle Peter falls into a trance from God and has an awestruck vision of the heavens opening and animals, reptiles, and birds walking about. The Lord spoke to him and told him to kill and eat an animal, but Peter refused because of the Jewish ceremonial laws against eating unclean animals. The Lord tells Peter in this vision to not call unclean that which God has called clean.

Peter is initially confused about the meaning of this dream, but later in the story, Peter runs into a group of Gentiles in a house, asking for him. Similarly to the law about unclean animals, it was against Jewish law for a Jew to associate with Gentiles. But Peter remembers his dream from God and realizes that God has invited the Gentiles into the church and now Peter has a responsibility from God to shepherd them, despite his Jewish heritage. Overcoming these Jewish customs would have been incredibly difficult for Peter, but he knew that carrying out God’s dream requires obedience. When God gives us a dream, vision, or word, He expects us to be obedient to it. If we want to dream with God, we must be willing to do what He asks, even when it’s hard, because ultimately God’s dream will be greater and more fulfilling than we could ever imagine.

A dream from God and for God calls us to be obedient to God. Obedience is not always easy. It may require us to deny everything that we once knew, felt, or dreamed of, but God’s dream is always greater than any dream that we could ever imagine and as followers of God, we should be obedient to His dream.

Self Reflection:

  1. What is holding you back from being obedient to God’s dream? What in your life makes it difficult to yield to God’s dream?
  2. What is one consistent discipline I can implement to be obedient to God’s dream?

About this Plan

Dream Devo - SEU Conference

God has always had a dream. Whether you call it a vision, a plan, or a purpose, God’s always been dreaming. God’s desire is that all of creation would experience and know the love of Christ. He has been relentless in His pursuit that we would experience life to the full.
