Devoted: A Girl’s Guide To Good Living With A Great GodSample
"Ministry"
Read Colossians 4:17, 2 Corinthians 4
We Christians bear the world’s best-kept secret—the Gospel. We’d be shocked to realize how many people don’t know the Gospel story, much less understand what Jesus did for them, what implications His sacrifice has for their lives, and what the Bible teaches. People are searching for the truth that sets us free (John 8:32). We just cannot keep the good news to ourselves!
Once we have Jesus, our life becomes one big mission trip. This planet is our mission field—starting right in our hometown, perhaps venturing beyond. There are so many different people, places, backgrounds, problems, needs. . . Where do we begin? God has very intentionally prepared us for His calling on our lives so that we can bring Him glory.
We share our faith to glorify God and point others to the Lord. For the unsaved, we point them to salvation in Jesus. For believers, we help them grow and draw closer to Him. We share what God has taught us in our lives and from the scriptures. We help them draw closer to Jesus. All the while, our faith is being strengthened. God uses our active obedience in shining His light to the world as a means for us to grow, stretch, and ultimately draw closer to Him.
As we humbly bring what God has given us and blessed us with to the table and selflessly give it back to Him, He is glorified. It’s not about us. It’s about God first and others next. It’s not about bringing us glory, fame, a good name, praise, whatever—our desire and motivation ought to be purely to bring glory to the holy name of God. He is deserving of every bit of our devoted worship, honor, and praise (Psalm 145:21). We call this ministry—we minister to others to help them, point them to Christ, and bring glory to God. Ministry isn’t just for professionals—it’s for everyone who calls Jesus Lord. It’s for you and me.
One look around us and we can easily get proud, overconfident, and independent of God, forgetting that God is the only reason we are able to make a difference. We must acknowledge that He is the One who makes us capable, strong, and sufficient. It’s all about pointing others to Him and bringing all the glory to the holy, mighty name of Jesus—He truly deserves our all.
