Old Testament Overview

DAY 28 OF 104

The book of Exodus continues the story where Genesis left off. Just as was Joseph, Moses is a type of Christ through whom God moves the redemptive narrative closer to fulfilment (ultimately in Jesus).

In Exodus we see God fulfilling His promise to make Israel into a nation (Genesis 12:1-3). A nation requires 3 ingredients: a people, a law, and a land. God provides each of these, although the promise of land is delayed by Israel's unfaithfulness (Numbers 14).

The law of God for Israel is known as the Old (or Mosaic) Covenant.

After reading the passage use these questions as the basis for your discussion.

1. What stood out for you / what was interesting and why? (The Holy Spirit’s prompting)

2. What was the passage about / the main message / big idea? (The Word of God)

3. What should we do / how can we apply this message? (Faith in Action)

About this Plan

Old Testament Overview

This plan is designed for families (our girls were under 10 when we used it); it can also be used for personal devotion. Each day uses the same 3 questions to explore the text. The plan provides a comprehensive "bird's eye view" of the Old Testament; the aim is to understand the first phase of God's salvation plan through the Covenants (relationships) which He established with His people.
