What to Do When We Are Waiting

DAY 4 OF 7

Together in the Wait: The Strength of Fellowship

While waiting, God often calls us to a deeper sense of community. This leads us to the third thing to see in Acts 1: waiting periods are times for fellowship, for fostering and nurturing relationships.

Acts 1:14-15 highlight this communal aspect of waiting. The apostles and other followers, totaling 120, were united in prayer and purpose. They were not only individually active and obedient but also deeply engaged in fellowship. Their gathering was not incidental but a deliberate act of obedience to Jesus’ command. Christ had spoken to them as a group and instructed them as a group, emphasizing the importance of togetherness in their journey.

This collective experience underscores a critical truth: In times of uncertainty or waiting, our tendency might be to withdraw or isolate until the waiting period resolves. However, God’s design is not for isolation but for rich fellowship. The Lord uses the people around us—our church, family, friends—as sources of encouragement, support, and wisdom.

Think about the times you have faced waiting in your life. Have you found yourself pulling away from others, perhaps to brood over your situation alone? The apostles’ example reminds us that such times are opportunities to lean into the fellowship God has placed us in. Whether it’s a period of waiting for a job, a change in personal circumstances, or seeking direction, the community plays a crucial role.

Remember, every day is a gift, including the days of waiting. These days should not be spent in isolation but in the valuable company of those God has placed in our lives. Resisting the urge to withdraw is essential, even at home. We are called to engage with our family, to be present with them and embrace the daily opportunities for connection and growth.

Consider the fellowship around you as a source of strength and support. Engage with your community, be present with your family, and cherish the relationships God has given you. Times of waiting are not just about what we are waiting for but also about who we are with during the wait.
