Why Is Jesus the Savior?Sample
Why do you believe in Jesus?
What convinced you to become a follower of Christ? This is not to persuade you to become a Christian, but as Christians, we should be able to understand and communicate our faith not only logically and clearly, but also through the Bible. The Bible commands us to honor him by defending our faith. Within this four-day study, we will learn how to provide a defense for the hope we have in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
If we open the Bible to any of the four gospels, we understand that not everyone believed that Jesus was the savior at the first coming. The Scribes and Pharisees plotted to arrest Jesus and sentence him to death for preaching the word of God. The Pharisees were supposed to be the people who knew the most about God’s word, so how would they not have known Jesus was the promised savior? Yet the disciples, who were not preachers or scholars, were able to identify that Jesus was the one that the prophets wrote about.
Jesus said he came to fulfill what the law and the prophets wrote in the Old Testament, if there are entire books of the Bible dedicated to prophesying about Jesus and His coming, why did the religious leaders not recognize Jesus' coming as the fulfillment?
If we imagine what it would be like to live at that time, we can picture the religious leaders who have studied the scriptures their entire lives telling everyone that a crazed man has come blaspheming God and lying about scripture. Now imagine if you were just a bystander in a town nearby and heard the gossip of an estranged man claiming to be the savior, you might have a chuckle and continue on with your day especially if our religious leaders are denying the validity of this man’s statements.
If we were present at the time of the first coming, would we have known that Jesus was the Savior and believed in him? Throughout this devotional, we will discuss who Jesus came to save, why they needed a savior, and how to recognize the savior.
