One of the biggest lies we will be tempted to believe is that there is a separation that exists between us and God. That makes Paul’s words in this verse so powerful. Paul is saying, nothing can separate us from God’s love—and then goes on to list the things all of the things we may be tempted to believe are deal breakers.

It’s almost as if we see God’s love in a two-dimensional way when it’s actually three-dimensional. There is no escaping it or outmaneuvering it. God’s love surrounds us and permeates every part of our lives, world, and being. This is the best news ever for those days when we feel discouraged about a lack of growth or progress when we disappoint ourselves with our habits or choices, and when we let others or ourselves down. God’s love doesn’t change. When we begin to live out of God’s love that is already ours, instead of trying to earn it like we don’t already have it, it changes everything.

Let the reality of God’s love encourage you to live in light of it, and not in pursuit of or trying to earn it. Let it motivate you, not shame you. It’s already yours. Now live like it’s true!
