Path to Purpose: Ecclesiastes

DAY 3 OF 5

One of God's amazing attributes is His Sovereignty. God’s Sovereignty involves His rule and reign over all things and His ability to work through His Creation however He pleases. God’s Sovereignty can be a great comfort to us whenever we feel afraid, confused, or overwhelmed. But it is also possible to be a bit jealous of God’s Sovereignty. We can wish that we knew all of God’s plans and exactly how He is working all things for His purposes.

And yet, not knowing exactly how God works and what He will accomplish is a good thing. God’s Sovereignty is something to marvel at, and His Sovereignty leads us to trust Him. Because God is in control of all things, we can trust that He is holding the world in His Hands—and He is holding us too. Even though God is moving and working in our lives in ways that we often cannot see, we can trust that He is working everything for our good and His Glory (Romans 8:28).

If we find ourselves struggling to trust in God’s Sovereignty, we can remember the Gospel. At exactly the right time, God sent us Jesus who lived the perfect life, died in our place on the Cross, and rose from the dead. Because of Jesus, we are able to experience forgiveness and Eternal Life. If God sovereignly fulfilled His Plan of Salvation through Christ, we can trust that He will fulfill the plans and purposes He has for us as well. God’s timing is perfect, so we can trust Him.

Reflect and Respond

What situation do you need to trust God’s Sovereignty with right now? Spend some time in prayer, asking God to help you trust in His control and timing.
