A Guide for Following JesusSample

It’s been said that the story of Scripture is four phrases repeated throughout its pages:

I love you.
I am with you.
Don’t be afraid.
You can come home.

That’s how God feels about you. Whether you’ve just decided to follow Jesus, or you’ve decided to recommit your life to Him, this is how God feels about you. He loves you with an everlasting love. He promises to be with you no matter what. He reminds you over and over that regardless of what life brings, you don’t need to be afraid. And you can always, always come back home to Him.

Deciding to follow Jesus - or to recommit your life to Him - is truly the best decision you will ever make. When you decided to follow Jesus, you were saved. You can rest in the assurance that you are in the family of God, and that Jesus has a full life in store for you both here on earth and in eternity.

Now that you’re saved, it’s important to still decide to follow Jesus every single day for the rest of your life. Once we decide to follow Jesus, we spend the rest of our lives becoming a passionate disciple of Jesus. We never arrive in our relationship with Jesus – there is always more to discover: more understanding, more depth, more trust. Like any relationship, in order to experience closeness or depth, it’s important to spend time with that person. We spend time getting to know Jesus and trusting Him through prayer, reading Scripture, being involved in a local church, and more.

Over the next few days, we’re going to dive deeper into these four phrases repeated throughout the story of Scripture and see how each of them can deepen our relationship with Jesus now that we’ve decided to entrust our lives to Him.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that no matter what, there is always more of You for me to discover and get to know. Thank You that I will never get to the end of knowing You. Speak to me over these next few days; take me deeper into Your love, and help me to love those around me.
