DAY 7 OF 9

Doing Good

"These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God". Titus 2:3-4 NLT

What does it mean to do good?

“Good” can be a very generalized word. Many things are good, but not all things are beneficial (1 Corinthians 10:23). So, we must ask, what does it mean to do good? I think this is speaking about more than just performance (you did a good job washing the car, or you did a good job on that assignment). I believe it encompasses actions with eternal value.

For example, this could mean stepping out of our homes to help others in the following ways:

  • Volunteering at a local food pantry or donation center
  • Baking cookies for a neighbor
  • Taking a meal in for another busy mom.
  • Writing a note of encouragement for a widow
  • Sending a message of support for your pastors or leaders in office
  • Babysitting for another couple so they can have a date night

Right now, you may be thinking…but how can I fit any of these into my already chaotic and busy schedule? I would like someone to see my struggle and bring me a meal…or offer to watch my kids so I have time to catch my breath. I hear you, dear sister, and my heart can relate to your weight. But greater still, our Heavenly Father sees you. In Genesis 16:13, Hagar encountered God in a very real and personal way. She declared, “You are the God who sees,” EL ROI. God saw Hagar, a slave girl disowned, a single mother alone, and He sees you, dear sister.

And so, my encouragement for you is that you would open up your heart to the One who created you. Tell Him about the weight you’re carrying and the struggles you’re dealing with, and ask Him for the peace and rest that only He can give.

As you continue to learn to rest in God, ask Him to open your eyes to the needs around you and give you direction on how you can do good. As you are filled with His presence, peace, and love, you can give out of the overflow of your heart.
