Day 3: Is God Your Electricity?:
Proverbs 3 is the first introduction about the teaching of money, its role, and how we, as believers, should view it.
What does it mean to honor the Lord with your wealth and the first fruit of your income? It means to respect God and the role he plays in your life as your Provider.
For example, an electric company provides you with power and lights every day, so you don’t have to live in the dark and in return, you pay them out of respect for their service. And if you don’t, well, you can’t live a normal and comfortable life.
In relation, God gives us money, jobs, the title, etc. We Honor Him first by returning to Him 10% of our income before anything else is withdrawn from our gross income. We do this to say thank you for giving us our needs and our wants, protecting us from things that could go wrong but don’t, and putting Him at the head of our lives.
To tithe is to say, God, I Honor you as Lord over my life and, I trust you with everything I have.
And in return, in Proverbs 3:10 he says your vats (a large vessel such as a cistern or barrel which is used to store liquids) will OVERFLOW with NEW wine. Not old wine, but new wine (new money, new life, new experiences, new connection, you fill in the blank. He is the giver of it all.
Rest assured, when you give your first to God, He honors the obedience and your heart and his provision and abundance are soon to follow.
You can never go wrong following wisdom.
I encourage you to read the rest of proverbs three. There are even more gems inside about wisdom, money, and giving! Happy reading!
