Stay on Track! Paul's Letter to the Galatians

DAY 3 OF 25

We are saved by the triune God

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father” (Galatians 1:3-4)

Reading about Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, may give the impression that our salvation is only Jesus’s work. But today’s text makes clear that God the Father is involved as well. Jesus’s salvation work is “according to the will of our God and Father." The same is proclaimed by Jesus, “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life.” (John 6:40). The Holy Spirit is involved too — “He saved us ... by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:5).

Throughout scripture we see that all three persons of the Trinity are involved in the salvation of humans. They have different “roles”, but the same goal. They are unified, both in their being and in their work. Therefore, Bible writers can state in one verse that we are saved by God the Father, and in another verse that our salvation is the work of Jesus Christ. Both are true.

Have you accepted God’s gift of deliverance?

About this Plan

Stay on Track! Paul's Letter to the Galatians

Paul wrote a letter to the Galatians because he was very concerned about their spiritual well-being. They were in danger of straying from the right path, and Paul goes to great lengths to keep them from that. His explanations and advice are still extremely relevant today!
