Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 9Sample
In 1 Corinthians 10, we read of the Jews travelling through the Wilderness.
Paul wrote that:
• They were all baptised into the cloud of Glory, into the fellowship of Moses.
• They ate of the same heavenly manna and drank water from the same spiritual rock.
• All which were a type of Christ, but in this instance, under the Law of Moses.
The sad thing is, despite them enjoying all these blessings, God still wasn’t pleased with them, and many of them died in the wilderness.
Now, Paul cautioned us –
• We must not fall into the same trap of sin as they did.
He wrote in verses 11-13,
"For we live in a time when the purpose of all the ages past is now completing its goal within us. So beware if you think it could never happen to you, lest your pride becomes your downfall. We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial, God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously."
Our focus must be Christ and Christ alone. And our conduct in life should be in such a way that people can see Christ in us and give honour and glory to Him.
We can be victorious, not by trying to obey the Law of Moses but by our understanding of our freedom in Christ, the freedom to do the right thing and live victoriously.
Now, at the baptism of Jesus, God the Father proclaimed, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I’m well pleased!”
Because of our identification with Christ Jesus, God the Father is well pleased with you and me.
We have been baptised in Christ, and we have communion with Him, the Eternal Bread of Life.
God is pleased with you and me because of our fellowship with Jesus Christ.
