Facing Our Fear With Faith

DAY 4 OF 5

The Source of Our Comfort

Before life’s trials, it can be tempting to deny reality, grow bitter, or seek solace in speculative philosophies. However, as believers, we are called to a different response that shows the power of honest and humble faith in adversity.

Many prefer to act as if nothing is happening, ignoring the harsh realities confronting them in their finances, jobs, or families. This contradicts the principles found in God’s Word. Our faith does not call us to deny reality but to honestly acknowledge it. Similarly, expressing our questions and concerns is not wrong as long as we do so without bitterness or anger. These reflect a distorted view of God’s character and can indicate that we are not walking in the Spirit. Bitterness arises from a false assumption that we deserve better treatment, casting doubt on God’s love for us. However, our heavenly Father’s love is perfect, steadfast, and sovereign. He orchestrates all things for the good of those who love Him and fulfills His purpose in our lives. Therefore, responding with bitterness and anger is not the answer to our troubles. Instead, we must align our perspective with biblical truth and humbly repent of our sins.

When faced with daunting challenges, Habakkuk did not rely on human speculation or philosophical musings. Instead, he sought the face of God, acknowledging his need for divine guidance. God’s Word brings genuine comfort and encouragement in our most challenging moments. We must embrace the loving act of sharing God’s truth, reminding each other of His promises, and assuring one another of His faithfulness.

Habakkuk’s response to God’s answers demonstrated both honest and humble faith. Rather than resisting or debating with God, he bowed before His sovereign wisdom. Despite his fears, Habakkuk quietly awaited God’s promises, embracing peace in uncertainty. This humble faith allowed him to find solace despite the dire circumstances. Similarly, we are called to bow before God, trusting in His goodness and surrendering our doubts and questions.

Denying reality, growing bitter, or seeking solace in human wisdom are not the paths God has called us to walk. Instead, we are urged to respond with honest and humble faith, embracing the full weight of our circumstances and choosing to trust in God’s unwavering goodness. We are to find our foundation in God’s Word. By doing so, we will discover the joy of knowing God is with us no matter where we are.
