GOD Over Everything - 3-Day Devotional to Stay on Track With GODSample
GOD OVER MY PAST
When I was having a conversation with a friend, and he said, "C'mon man, I know you; I've known you since the 3rd grade," I stopped him and said, "You KNEW me then, but you don't KNOW me now. That was the old me." Some people will look for the old you as you grow in Christ. They'll think that you were more fun to be around because you don't make the same choices as you have before. They'll say you're different, that you are boring, or that you're too serious now.
And truth be told, there will be a part of you that longs to be in those same crowds and environments where it seemed as if life was carefree. It is usually easier to be who you used to be or to remain the same than it is to become a newer and better version of yourself. This is why the Bible says that we must forget the former things because your past will try to rob you of the future and hold you captive. Your history will remind you of the hurt people have done to you, the mistakes you have made, and the things you have done to hurt others.
You may be tempted to return to your old ways, but you must reject them. The path toward healing means you must constantly forgive others and yourself and focus on what lies ahead. When you focus, you will hear that still, small voice calling you higher, and even if you try to stay the same or go back, once you've encountered God, things are never the same. Why? Because the Holy Spirit, who lives inside of you, is interceding for you to become who GOD says you are.
When GOD has touched your heart and renewed your mind, your perception of life changes. People may see the same person, but how you see God will cause your entire life to shift. So let them talk, ridicule you, and laugh at you because you can't stop them from reminding you of who you used to be. They talked about Jesus, but they don't know that the new you has been born and what He's about to do in your life will leave them speechless. Today I encourage you to choose GOD over your past. Let them talk. They don't know the new you!
Pray this prayer with me:
"Father GOD, in the name of Jesus, I accept my new identity.
Some people are trying to make me feel as if I'm not new, as if the encounter I've had with you hasn't changed me. But I believe your word concerning my life and know I have a great future with you. I give you my worries and concerns and receive your truth over their opinions in Jesus' name.
