Aaron Shust - Love Made a Way - The Overflow DevoSample
Lead On
In 2010, I moved my young family from Georgia to Pennsylvania, to the land of my childhood. We had every intention of living the rest of our days in that beautiful part of the world among dear friends. But, God interrupted our plans and called us to move to Nashville, offering us no reason or logic. Only a clear call to go. I’ve heard it said that if you persist in ignoring the voice of God in your heart, you’ll eventually cease to hear it at all. So we packed our bags, said our goodbyes, and there was nothing easy about it.
I resonate with the story of Abraham in Genesis 12 when he was called by God to “go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” God didn’t even tell him which direction to start walking! It takes great humility to admit you don’t have all the answers and great faith to follow someone else’s lead.
My first year at Toccoa Falls College, some freshmen and I were invited to hike a narrow, winding, wooded path to a place called “Little Falls”. There were two stipulations: it had to happen after dark and we had to run. Our guide, Stephen, was an upperclassman who had run this trail a thousand times. So we ran! And because we followed him like white on rice, we made every turn, ducked under every low branch, hurdled every root and dodged every errant rock. Without one scrape or twisted ankle, we arrived at our destination with joy in our hearts and a story to tell.
Our eternal King has walked in our steps. He was tempted in every way as us, yet without sin. He is a trustworthy guide to follow!
