Lent Journey

DAY 4 OF 39

DAY 4
Work to be done

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Phil 1:21 – 24

I know the day will come when my journey on earth is over. But until then, surely there are things that I must do?

Many people on their deathbed express that there are still so many things they wanted to do. Think about those diagnosed with a terminal illness; they organise their lives to be able to complete those tasks they feel must still be done. This appears to be a natural need and desire of those who still have the opportunity.

So it was with Jesus too, who knew that He was going to die. I see how He completed important tasks. He was purposeful to see it through before He died.

Even Paul, who lived very closely to Jesus, had the same attitude. Everything that he did, reflected his words that there was still so much to be done before he died.

I am here now – I am alive, but I know I am going to die – I have work to do.

EXERCISE
During prayer today, reflect on the work you feel called to do during your lifetime.
• One way of doing this, is to connect with the activities that give you life, as well as those that drain you of life.
• What will your life be like if you focus your energy more on that which gives you life? See this as a invitation from God. Talk to God about this.

About this Plan

Lent Journey

Lent is a time when we prepare ourselves for Easter. Lent Journey consists of 38 devotions to accompany us on this journey. We are invited to the undertake the journey with Jesus and thereby prepare ourselves for the two big events that are the pillars of our belief system - the crucifiction and the resurrection.
