Stillness in the Storm

It appears to be a peaceful boat ride with Jesus. Suddenly, the storm strikes. The disciples are in a panic. Jesus is sleeping.

The storms of life hit us suddenly. They threaten to destroy us. Be it death, soured relationships, loss, etc., they come in different forms. Are we prepared?

Silence of God

We expect God to rise and set things right immediately. But sometimes, He appears to be silent. He appears to be sleeping.

Jesus is tired and getting His much-needed rest. God never sleeps. He is just waiting - testing to see if our faith will pull us through.

Sometimes we wait for years for results. Sometimes it takes a lifetime! Yet God is always working and acting on our behalf. We must trust that He will work in His way and time.

Stillness with God

The disciples do one thing right. They tirelessly and sacrificially follow Jesus. When they face a storm, Jesus is right there in the boat with them. They don’t realize He is the Master of the Sea, but though they don’t understand, they are there with him.

It eventually pays off. Though fearful, faithless, confused, and wondering who Jesus is, they cannot ask him directly. They accuse Jesus of not caring. They are stumbling, fumbling, and bumbling.

Yet through quality time with Jesus, they eventually learn stillness with God and became the mightiest ambassadors of Jesus the world has ever known.

Sensational work of God

When we are in the same boat as Jesus, that is all that is required to see his mighty power. Today, we have the privilege of having Him live with us and in us. If we allow Him to, this power changes us and the situations around us in ways we cannot imagine. Even if situations don’t immediately change, our perspectives are changing.

Matthew 8:27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Are we still amazed to see God’s power, or are we expecting it? Do we know and believe the power of God within us?
