Wife Study Challenge: A Plan for HusbandsSample
Day 5 Challenge: A “Why?” Study
I love asking questions. So much so that some of my friends call me an “interviewer.” I love questions because I find people so fascinating, and when I am able to ask people questions I learn all kinds of intriguing new things about them, the world, human behavior, and most captivating: God and how he moves in the lives around me.
While Jesus walked on earth, he asked a lot of questions. Jesus used questions to reveal motives, like he did with the rich young ruler in Mark 10. Sometimes he asked questions to simply engage with others, like he did when walking on the road in Luke 24. He also used questions to teach and instill faith, like he did in Luke 11.
Questions help us learn. They inspire curiosity. They help us dig deeper. They can cause us to identify motives. They can identify gaps in our knowledge that propel us to gain more wisdom. They can force clarity. They can engage others. They can even instill faith.
Today your challenge is to take a page out of Jesus’ book and ask your wife some good “why” questions. Asking your wife questions can inspire deeper conversation and connection.
Challenge: Find a “why” question to ask her today. Need help? Here are a few suggestions:
- Why do you love your favorite treat?
- Why do you love your favorite restaurant?
- Why do you (fill in the blank with some part of her morning/evening/daily routine)?
- Why do you love our church?
- Why do you love your friend group?
- Why do you love your favorite hobby?
- Why do you love your favorite TV show?
- Why do you find (fill in the blank with something she finds interesting) so interesting?
- Why do you find (fill in the blank with something she finds funny) so funny?
Prayer Challenge: Pray with your wife that you would both be curious about each other, but even more curious about God. Pray and ask God to help you learn new things about him, and new things about each other that will deepen your spiritual life and marriage.
