Letting Go When All You Have Is "Holding On"
When all you know is holding on it can be difficult to let go. The standard most families follow is to never quit! Stay the course until you reach your final destination.
Is there a benefit to that? Absolutely; the earth is filled with stories of defeat, failure and simply giving up. However, the Word of God instructs us to be courageous.
“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 NLT
We can admit that letting go can be a hard process to walk out, but it's important to remember that God has given us the power of choice and we’re never alone in the process.
Here's what He instructs us in Psalm 37:5-6 NLT.
"Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun."
A part of trusting Him is releasing control of the outcomes and standing in hopeful expectation toward your future. My friend, it can be intimidating and simply scary but understand that letting go can bring huge rewards both emotionally and physically down the road.
The scripture we hold dear is in 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline."
So don’t fear taking a leap of faith and letting go of something that no longer serves your purpose or the destiny God has placed before you.
The next steps forward won’t require baggage that's not imperative to your elevation, so let’s prioritize what we really need moving forward.
“But let us who live in the light be clear-headed, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8 NLT
What are you holding onto that needs releasing?
What can you prioritize?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, help me today to commit to my own care and emotional health by giving myself permission to let go of things and behaviors that don’t serve my well-being and spiritual maturity. Help me to change and grow in new ways that reflect Your image in my life. Amen.
