Fully Alive - a Life Empowered by the Holy SpiritSample
DAY 3 – THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PERSONAL
There’s a personality test you can do called the Enneagram test. To complete this test a person answers lots of questions about how they would react in certain situations. They are then given a number result based on different personality types. For example, type 2 is characterised as the helper. Each personality type has characteristics that define it. Some of the key positive characteristics of a type 2 person are that they are empathetic, compassionate, caring, generous, nurturing, encouraging, and warm-hearted. These characteristics tell us about the kind of person they are when they’re operating at their healthiest.
Just like us, the Holy Spirit has a personality! Scripture tells us that he is wise, insightful, loving, disciplined, honest, understanding, welcoming, generous, kind and caring. Scripture also tells us that he is powerful, holy, a giver of gifts and loves unity in the body of believers. Because the Holy Spirit is personal, he enjoys a relationship with us and wants to engage with us. He invites us to enter into a two-way relationship with him and just like when we accept an invitation to dinner with a friend, we can accept the invitation to have a real relationship with the Holy Spirit.
You may have worked with or know someone who is super positive, even when facing situations that are really tough. You only need to be around them for a few hours before their positive vibes are contagious and you (or those around you) notice that you become more positive after being with them.
The Bible also says that we are being transformed to be like the Holy Spirit as with engage with him. Just like the example above, when we spend a lot of time with the Holy Spirit we start to become like him and develop the fruits of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, generosity, faithfulness, self-control, and more! We become bold and full of faith and our eyes and hearts begin to see and love as he does. Why wouldn’t we jump right in!?
