Scripture
Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Hebrews 12:15
Summary
"Am I my brother's keeper?" That's what Cain famously asked God after murdering his brother, Abel. The answer (according to Scripture) is YES! Yes, you are your brother's (or sister's) keeper! We are called to watch each other's backs. To help each other make it to Heaven. To make sure that we each keep on walking the path of righteousness. We are to call each other out when we are going astray in any area. We are to point out each others' blindspots. We are to hold each other accountable. We are to "look after each other". The purpose of all this is so that we can each finish our race with our faith intact. This life is hard and this world is a battleground. Many have fallen slain by the wayside. We are fellow soldiers in the fight together. So let's commit to helping each other fight the good fight, to finish the race, to keep the faith.
Discussion Questions
1. What are your thoughts about the phrase "help each other make it to heaven"?
2. Have you ever had anyone call you out when you were in sin? How did you respond?
3. Why is it easier to see blindspots in others than in yourself?
4. Who in your life keeps you accountable?
5. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?
Closing Prayer
God, this life is hard. This world is a battlefield. Help us, Lord, to help each other. Show us how we can spur each other on toward love and good deeds. Make us a strong battalion of soldiers who are pushing back the darkness and watching each others' backs. Protect us from the evil one and strengthen our faith. Help us to each finish the race you've set out for us, and may we all make it to Heaven. In Jesus' name. Amen!
