DAY 19 OF 27

Scripture

You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

Summary

We don't go to church. We ARE the Church! The church is not a building, it is a people. A people set apart to God. A people in whom the Spirit of God dwells.

Just like God dwelt in the tabernacle in the Old Testament...now God dwells in us! Wherever we go, we take His presence with us. That is why we are called a holy priesthood, because we (like priests) mediate the presence of God to those out in the world. What we call “going to church” is actually just the “gathering of the saints.” We gather to encourage one another, to get refueled in our faith, to commune with God, and then we scatter out into the world to help lost people come into a right relationship with God. We don't go to church. We are the church! WE are the house of the Lord!

Discussion Questions

1. What was one thing that jumped out to you most from the above summary?

2. How does being "God's house" affect the way you view your life, your body, and our fellowship?

3. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?

Closing Prayer

God, it is amazing that we are your house. That you make our home in our hearts. That we carry your Spirit with us wherever we go. Help us to honor that privilege, Lord. Help us to carry you well. Help us not to take you into sinful places, situations, or conversations. May we honor your presence among us. Thank you that you are here in our midst. Help us to represent you well. In Jesus' name. Amen.
