God Can Use Busy

Have you ever met a real shepherd before? Did any of your college or high school classmates become a shepherd? Probably not. Shepherds weren’t the first picks of society, nor was it a glamorous job, but someone had to do it. This is where David was when God called him. He was out in the field, shepherding their sheep. The skill of shepherding sheep would benefit David immensely when he would be king.

Shepherds knew how to lead people. A butcher knows how to drive people. A butcher always pushes the sheep to hurry and go, but a shepherd leads them to green pastures. He is in front of them, taking them. What kind of person would you follow? I want someone who is leading, so I can follow. What does Psalm 23 say about the Lord? “He is my Shepherd. I shall not want. He leads me in green pastures, along still waters.” In the world’s eyes, being a shepherd might have meant nothing, but David was a good shepherd in God’s eyes. David’s private faithfulness preceded his public impact as king. He privately led the sheep, slayed a lion, and killed a bear to protect them. This experience helped him to slay Goliath to protect Israel.

We must learn that our life with Christ is about private faithfulness to the Lord. It’s about walking with God. It’s not about being the best at your job but focusing on how you live. We should want to walk with God, spend time with Him, and have a heart fixed on His heart. God knows where to find you. He understands who you are and what your heart looks like. You may not think you can lead anyone, but God used Moses, a fugitive of Pharaoh. He used Gideon, who was a coward. Peter was a simple fisherman. Regardless of how they thought of themselves and saw themselves, God used them greatly because He saw their heart. God wants to use you. It will take time and energy and won’t always be easy, but God calls busy people, not people looking for ways to avoid responsibility. God called all Bible heroes as they were busy doing their work.

The Bible is clear that God uses those who are faithful with little things and gives them much. God hits moving targets. Do you want to be used by God? He’s looking for moving targets whose hearts are passionate for Him and already moving forward. What holds us back is not realizing that our greatest desire in life should be to be used by God. We must be courageous enough to say, "God, use me."
