DAY 6 OF 20

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

God chose to reveal himself to us through scripture. For some of us, that’s great news! We get the chance to sit down, read a book, and enjoy some quiet time. For others, just the thought of sitting down and reading for any period of time is a nightmare. Regardless of your temperament, the scriptures are God’s primary method to interact with us. Scripture has the ability to make us new, fill us with life, and completely change our perspective. Often we have to sit still long enough for His word to work in us.

This week we are going to walk through John 14:18-21 together.

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.

Read this portion of scripture out loud three times, each slower than the last. Circle one phrase that you find the Holy Spirit may be highlighting for you today.

GUIDED PRAYER

Lord, bring scripture alive to me this week and open my eyes to all the mystery and wonder filled in these words. I submit to this process; speak to me and guide me. Fill my week with opportunities to share the exciting insight and new revelation of these words with others. Help me to be humble enough to read scripture as You intended. Thank You, Father, for the gift of Your son and for the scriptures that always point to Him. Help me to be aware of this gift throughout my day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
