Unpack This... What It Takes for a ComebackSample
A Resurgence
When Tiger Woods claimed the green jacket at the age of 43 for his first major championship in 11 years, it was one of the greatest comebacks in Masters Tournament history. Although ranked 1,199th in the December 2017 world rankings, Tiger became the second oldest Masters Champion on April 14, 2019.
The sports world’s response to Tiger’s return to the top of golf was described as a resurgence. Not only was it a comeback for him personally, but also the sport of golf.
A resurgence is defined as “an increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence.” Its synonyms include revival, recovery, renewal, comeback, reinvigoration, reawakening, resurrection, rejuvenation, and a new beginning.
These words not only describe the story of Tiger Woods but what many of us need as we face uncertainty, anxiety, and discouragement in our own lives.
While waiting for recovery and comeback, we not only desire our circumstances to change but long for a meaningful revival of our souls rooted in the resurrection of Jesus.
Thankfully, as followers of Jesus, we don’t have to wait for our current circumstances to change before we experience a reawakening. Christ’s comeback can reinvigorate our lives today!
The resurrection power of God is always available to us – especially in the midst of challenging situations.
Romans 8:11 tells us, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Right now, God wants to revive and renew us. The Bible encourages us in Isaiah 57:15: “The high and lofty One who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: ‘I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.’”
Today, let’s be challenged to turn to Him so we can truly experience rejuvenation and resurgence in our lives.
I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, my desire is the same as the Psalmist when he says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." I pray Your Word gives me a new beginning today. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
