My Soul Trusts in HimSample
Chapter 4 –The Anointed Discover God.
Now, Coming to the most critical, Psalms 57.
I find it is one of the most amazing full-of-revelation portions of scripture.
You have to understand the conditions of David as he writes this psalm. The Bible says that David cried louder than Jonathan when Jonathan came to him with the news of Saul's schemes. He was running from Saul to save himself from being killed. He is forced to separate from his army, family, and friends and has none to trust. David was the greatest fearless, bold warrior and now finds himself running. David finds himself hungry and tired. He acts like a madman drooling all over himself to save himself. He travels without a sword, signifying his absolute nakedness – No money, no equipment for safety, no friends, and no food.
So, David finally wants to stop running and does what will permanently put an end to Saul's pursuit. David flees to the enemy territory with the 600 men with him. And this king was good to David and his men. Eventually, the king finds himself fighting Israel and puts David in a highly complex situation by asking him to come and fight against his blood brothers Israel. As if all that David is going through wasn't enough, now David is also torn between two decisions. Fortunately, David didn't have to fight that war, and as he returned to his place of refuge, he saw that his city was on fire and all the children, women, cattle & wealth were taken away.
And everyone with David wanted to stone him to death. Imagine the mental state of David. If this were in 2022, David would have been diagnosed with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, depression, and personality issues, and his mental health prescription would be a book.
David has no one to strengthen him. Expect himself and the words of Jonathan, which boosted his hand in the Lord. In his loneliness and wretchedness, David had to remind HIMSELF of Jonathan's words. He had to remind HIMSELF of the God that protected him from the lion and the bear. He had to remind HIMSELF about the God who delivered Goliath into his hand. He was his counsellor and his own encourager. He does not look at the man or fears the schemes because His Soul now trusts in GOD! That is the beginning of Psalm 57.
In all the chaos and noise, David, after strengthening himself in the Lord, says in verse 1,
Be merciful to me, O God!
For MY SOUL TRUSTS IN YOU;
And in the shadow of Your wings, I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.
When I read this psalm and comprehended the total weight of David's situation, I asked myself, 'How did he get his trust in God? What makes him trust in God? Why does he trust in God?' I didn't have to wonder long because David explains the How, What & Why in verse 4
'My soul is among lions;
I lie among the sons of men
Who are set on fire,
Whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.'
Many commentaries and people interpret this as David being among enemies. But I believe David was talking about the Lion of Judah. He was talking about the man on fire – Jonathan, who spoke words that stirred David up and strengthened his hand in God. David's trust came from remembering what was planted deep in his soul. He may feel weary, lonely & defeated on the outside, but on the inside, in his soul, he is resting among the men on fire. Resting so God, his redeemer and deliverer, can take the wheel.
I have goosebumps as I write this.
We need to understand that the trajectory of our life depends on the people we surround ourselves with, the church we go to, the music we feed our soul, the sermons we hear, and the revelation we search for. If you have no Jonathan who will deposit fire in you, run and find a Jonathan – a man of God on fire, filled with His Spirit. His Spirit is set on fire and will set you on fire.
The anointed host the anointing, and the anointing hosts the fire.
Surround yourself with a good bible based church and a pastor. Get lit up. Discover God in what is deposited inside you. RUN WITH IT.

About this Plan
Discover how you can let the confidence of your life trust in your GOD! Forget about the people, relationships, the job, world news, current affairs, and all the things that seem to slip away from our control. David says, "My soul trusts in you.... For my soul is among the lions (the Godly), and I lie among the men on fire (the prophets)..." and he strengthened himself in the lord when everyone was against him. He always went with the purposes that God put in him rather than the thoughts and strategies that the people tried to push on him. He never let the circumstances affect him, he was a man whose soul trusted in HIM!
