True Treasure

An idol is anything that steals our attention and devotion from Christ’s image. We might not be worshiping a golden calf anymore, but we absolutely settle for idols on this earth. We can even fall more in love with ministry than with our Maker. It’s important that we refuse to allow anything material to distract us from the true treasure of knowing Jesus Christ. We can’t simply say that he’s Lord of our lives and then worship other things. Jesus warned us, "when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward” (Matthew 6:5 NKJV). Our true treasures and real rewards are waiting for us in Heaven. If we work to impress others instead of serving God, we’ve received our reward already.
