Carving Out Quiet Time
Never forget Your promises to me . . . for they are my only hope. They give me strength in all my troubles; how they refresh and revive me!
PSALM 119:49–50 TLB
We thrive in calmness. We think clearly when we’re calm. We’re more likely to act and react lovingly when we’re calm. We’re most likely to follow the still, small voice of God within us when we’re calm.
One of the best ways to maintain calm in our lives is to carve out the quiet time we need. God gets to the deepest parts of us when we get silent, and that’s where we need our strength to be shored up. That’s where we want Him to plant truth, give us confidence in His love, and reveal the power of the grace we walk in every day.
We tend to spend our alone time thinking about what God has done in our lives. We think about the way He came through when we felt hopeless or the way He taught us through an experience—and it felt like love, not condemnation. He’s gentle and kind, and who He is never changes. Meditating on the goodness of God can keep us anchored, emotionally and spiritually. The more time we spend letting our hearts and minds dwell on His faithfulness, the more we see that His love is constantly active in our lives. There’s no hint of turning in Him. He’s always with us, knowing what’s coming and giving us the strength to face it. He doesn’t forget His promises to us, and He won’t fail to keep them.
Go through today with a calm, carefree spirit. There’s nothing on the way that God won’t give you the grace to handle. His joy is our strength, so enjoy the good things He brings and lean on Him if there are some not-so-good things. His love covers it all—and that’s more than enough comfort to give us courage and keep us calm.
Dear God, I’ll think of Your faithfulness and the love in every promise You give. In You alone I’m strong and hopeful, carefree and calm.
