Part of Jesus’ Last Request

DAY 1 OF 3

IN HIS FINAL MOMENTS YOU WERE ON HIS MIND!

I have been guilty, and I know I am not alone. We are guilty of asking God to forgive us and then unable to forgive ourselves, of the very sins we asked Him to wash from us.

Why is it so hard for humans to let go of things we are ashamed of?

Let's examine scripture to discover this truth. Sometimes it‘s difficult to hear the truth, and that can be why many people refuse to read God’s Word. It‘s filled with men and women just like you and me, who have failed, who have sinned, and have disappointed not only ourselves but God. In facing the truth, we discover that God is loving; just waiting for us to return fully to Him. When this happens, then He can qualify us!

There are several reasons why we go back on these guilt trips of not letting go of what God has already forgiven:

1. We have a problem with relinquishing ‘control’ to God.

2. The enemy Satan churns them over and over in our mind to make us think we are not worthy of forgiveness; or that what we’ve done is not forgivable.

“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and destroy?” James 4:12a

Only you and God know the truth about why you want to hang onto something that God is more than willing to wash away from you.

When we hang on to sin, we are like a drowning victim clinging to a boat with a hole in it. It is useless and will eventually pull you under.

As we go through this study, we will remember Jesus’ last desires and His plea to His Father.

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

TODAY’S EXERCISE:

Be honest with yourself. Chat openly with God as if your best friend was listening (because He is). Many times, it helps us release things by doing a physical action. Example: Write everything down you want to put away and burn the paper or drive nails in them. God’s last plea was one of forgiveness!
