HELP!: A 10-Day Devotional by Brandon LakeSample
This song gave birth to the whole record. It’s the album’s heartbeat, and it represents my deepest cry when it comes to anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. I wrote it quite literally while having a panic attack—and it describes the feelings I experienced in the moment as well as the sense of freedom that comes from saying, “help!”
The bridge goes, “I lift my eyes up to the skies. Where does my help come from? My one defense, my truest friend. Where does my help come from?”
Someone in Scripture who’s also known for his cries of help is David. Time and time again in the Psalms, he pours out his heart, lamenting in anguish and asking God for deliverance from his enemies as well as praising Him for His goodness. In Psalm 121:1, David says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” I believe the word “help” is powerful, showing both vulnerability and need. And even after asking for it, the act of receiving help makes way for a newfound closeness between the giver and the receiver.
God is ready to offer you help. He’s listening for your cries—and He’s so faithful to answer. Through this song, I hope you sing out at the top of your lungs and receive help from the One who is always there and offers freedom and deliverance with outstretched hands.

About this Plan
Thanks for joining me on this 10-day devotional, which shares the freedom, truth, and intimacy found only in God. This plan is based on the songs from my recent album, HELP!, which I wrote out of a place of anxiety while desperately searching for freedom. I pray these words and songs draw you closer to God and that you, too, begin to see the light. Goodbye fear, hello hope.
