Rest Assured

DAY 2 OF 3

Rest Assured: Mental Health

To begin today, let’s look at a notable scripture in Philippians 4 (ESV):

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

One of the most challenging things I face daily is to rejoice in the Lord regardless of my circumstances—there, I said it. But it’s also one of the most “freeing” aspects of my day since I humble myself and place complete control on Him. Because of this, I do not have anxiety, and I believe this also helps my mental well-being.

This passage, among others, shows us that God wants and desires us to place our anxiety, cares, and other stress hindrances on Him; mostly because He cares, but by doing this, we receive His peace and rest, which is far better than any other rest the world may offer.

Achieving rest can mean different things to different people, and as I mentioned in Day 1’s devotional, I encourage everyone to be in bed by 10 p.m. From my experience, if you wake up an hour after you go to bed, this may be a body signal for B vitamins. I also encourage those seeking mental health improvement in their daily diet to begin their day with a protein since your brain uses around twenty percent of your energy daily. Next, eat healthy fats like avocado, walnuts, and ocean-caught fish, like salmon. Lastly, help your brain by limiting sugar, wheat, and soy products. These have taken essential minerals, including zinc, out of your body.

My prayer for you today is to place your mental health and well-being in God’s hands and listen to Him so you can find His perfect peace.
