Breakthrough Boldly
Merriam-Webster defines breakthrough as a sudden advance; a person’s first notable success; an act or instance of moving through or beyond an obstacle.
Right from the beginning of Scripture we see that our God is a God of breakthrough. Perhaps one of the most incredible breakthroughs of all time is the creation of the heavens and the earth. From nothing came everything – stars, planets, plants, animals, and the pinnacle of God’s creation, humanity. But God never intended His breakthroughs to stop there. He created us in His image. He has blessed us with the ability to create breakthroughs in our lives and our world when we partner with Him.
Consider Mary Magdalene. We don’t know how long she suffered with seven demons. Her breakthrough came the day she met Jesus. Jesus healed her and gave her a new life of purpose and meaning. Mary became one of Jesus’s followers. She provided for His ministry out of her own finances. She learned from Jesus. And she was the first person to witness the risen Lord and share the news of His resurrection with the disciples. God transformed Mary so she could be part of His mission.
What can we learn from Mary Magdalene about the way God brings about breakthroughs in our lives?
- God brings breakthroughs through hard things. Out of the most devastating circumstances, God often brings success beyond what we could have imagined.
- God requires our faith and trust in Him. We must discipline ourselves to keep our eyes on the Lord and trust Him through our storms.
- God requires our dependence on and obedience to Him. We weren’t created to be self-sufficient. Breakthroughs happen when we live completely dependent upon God, following His leading and direction.
What circumstances do you need to surrender to God? What courageous step is God calling you to take? Ask Him to increase your faith, and get ready for your next breakthrough.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me when I put more faith in what I can see than in what You can do. I praise You for the breakthroughs I have experienced in my life and trust that You have more in store. I choose to partner with You in the work You are doing in and through me. Thank you for the breakthroughs yet to come. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
