Finding Strength in God's Truth When You're Feeling Helpless and Beaten Down

DAY 9 OF 10

A song for you

We sometimes find that singing the lyrics of a song helps us remember the blessings that the Lord has for us. There are tens of thousands of hymns and songs of worship, in almost every language in the world. We would like to encourage you to search out the old hymn, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’, because its words will encourage you to cling to God’s Word; trusting in what He has to say about you rather than in the lies that will keep you feeling defeated.

Written by Helen Lemmel in 1922, inspired by the life of missionary Lilias Trotter (1853-1928).

O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.

His word shall not fail you he promised
Believe him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.

In John 8:31-32, 36, Jesus says, “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus gives us these comforting words, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
