Switch: How To Follow Jesus

DAY 6 OF 6

All In

This week, you’ve learned about discipleship and what it means to follow Jesus. You may have taken some big steps in pursuing God, and that’s great. Keep going! There’s an awesome story of a new disciple from today’s reading in Luke.

Jesus had dinner with some religious teachers of the day. A female prostitute came in during this meal, and begin began to wash Jesus’ feet with perfume—and her tears. The teachers were so upset that Jesus would not only allow this sinful woman to do this, but more than that, He forgave her all her sins.

The beautiful thing about the faith of this woman was that her perfume was the way she attracted men. That perfume was her main “business” strategy. She took all possibility of making money in a way that didn’t honor God and poured it out over His feet. She wanted to show outwardly the love and thankfulness she felt toward Jesus.

In contrast, the religious teachers had done nothing to welcome Jesus. They had shown him no courtesy or kindness in their own home. They were probably shocked, embarrassed, and even angry at how Jesus cut right to the heart of their apathy and lack of commitment. He understood it was because they didn’t really love Him the way the woman did.

So I want to challenge you to give all that you have and all that you are to Jesus, and trust Him with your life—because you love Him. Follow Him. Live your life for Him. Because that’s what it looks like to really be a disciple of Jesus.
