Year of the Bible: Part Two of Twelve

DAY 30 OF 30

The Passover.

God established the preparations for Passover and the feast to be celebrated for Millenia after He carried out the final plague. God gave Moses instructions on how the people were to prepare.

The slaughter of the lamb provided the blood they needed to put on the doorposts so that they would be marked safe. The bread was made without yeast because their release from Egypt would be so quick that it wouldn't have time to rise. He also told them to stay in their homes until morning. The people did just as God commanded them through Moses and Aaron.

Everything God said would take place that night came to pass. The firstborn in every Egyptian household died, including the firstborn of every herd and flock. The wailing was heard all over Egypt, but not a dog so much as barked in Goshen where God's people were.

Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and told them to get out! The Egyptian people urged the Israelites to leave, and they gave them whatever they asked for, just to be rid of them! The faithfulness of God to keep His word and deliver them dramatically has shaped the culture of Jews ever since. They never forget.

The night of the Passover is a megaphone shouting toward the future coming savior. The final plague foreshadows the Passover lamb, Jesus, would come and spare the lives of all who take on the mark of His blood on the doorpost of our lives.

Question: In what other ways do you see the future work of Jesus foreshadowed in this story?
