DAY 4 OF 5

Fight the Good Fight

We live in a broken world, and until God restores this world and claims a final victory, we will fight a battle of good versus evil. If you’re awake to the truth, you’ll sometimes feel this battle.

Fighting the good fight means you’re aware of what you are up against, you’ll do the hard work, and only God has power over you (see Philippians 2:13). Whatever He calls you to do, He’ll equip you to do. He’ll get you in fighting condition.

As you face your battles, be mindful and vigilant. Be loving, yet smart, and tender, yet tough (see Matthew 10:16). Sometimes trouble is obvious, and sometimes it hides behind pretty faces or even half-truths. At every age you need discernment to see what is and isn’t from God. You may think your worst enemy is a human being, but your real enemy, the source of all darkness, is Satan. While he is no match for God, he is a predator. He will try to stir the pot, create irreconcilable differences, and fan into flames any anger, jealousy, or frustration you feel.

Thankfully, you don’t fight your fight alone. Jesus is always ready to help, and all you do is ask. He can strengthen you, empower you, and unite you with allies. He can sharpen your discernment and situational awareness. Your best weapons in any battle are armor and light. Put on God’s armor and follow the light, trusting Him as your protector and guide (see Ephesians 6:10–18 and Isaiah 9:2).

Choose your battles wisely, and save your resources for the battles that matter most. As you courageously step forward, you may inspire those around you, showing them what can be done (or overcome) with the heart and resolve of a warrior.

Respond

What is your biggest battle? Is it internal or external? How is God equipping you to persevere? How did God carry you through a previous challenges? Can you see His hand on you? How can memories of His faithfulness fuel confidence in His ability to show up again? Who may be inspired by God’s work in you? Who may be better prepared to face their battles after seeing you not give up?

Prayer

Mighty God, thank You for choosing me and equipping me for my trials. Thank You for the gifts of wisdom, discernment, and strength. Help me see my weaknesses clearly and rest humbly in Your ability to use me for Your purposes. The victory is Yours! Amen!
