Strong And Courageous: Leadership Lessons From The Book Of JoshuaSample
We’ve witnessed Joshua’s ups and downs. He learned he had to stay connected to God, keep his priorities straight, and deal with fear.
God’s initial charge to Joshua was to “Be strong and courageous.” To do this, we must tend to our hearts’ soil which then encourages our team members to do the same.
In Joshua 7, the Israelites start to see the favor of God lift from their nation. Joshua prays and God reveals many had disobeyed the Lord’s commands after the victory over Jericho, and until they repent, the Lord cannot go with them.
Joshua was willing to halt progress, evaluate his troops’ heart condition, and then deal with the problem. Are we ready and willing to do the same?
It’s hard to slow down when there are so many things to accomplish in a day. We have deadlines and performance pressure. However, I am ultimately responsible for keeping a pulse on our team’s condition and adjust boldly and quickly when necessary.
The companies we lead belong to God and we must be willing to offer Him pure, obedient hearts as leaders. If you ever start to see fear rise within your company, stop and examine your heart. Do a check-up with your team members. Through prayer and conversation, God will show you where the weaknesses are so you can correct your course.
God led me personally to a place of repentance before He truly blessed my work. Many years ago, God dealt with me about the greed and pride I had in my heart. I mistakenly thought I had reached success because of my hard work alone.
Through prayer, God reminded me of how many times He had taken care of me. He promised me that if I gave Him everything, He would give me a full, abundant life.
This prayer was the start of my journey to repentance and truly living life as a steward of all God owns. As I couple humility with God’s direction, I’m able to lead with strength and courage. Our team can follow my example as we aim to serve with excellence and, most importantly, offer hearts submitted to God’s Word.
God has done such a work in my heart and will be faithful to complete it. I know He will do the same for you.
Is anything holding you back from the abundant life God desires to give you?
