The Art of Submission

DAY 1 OF 7

Day 1 - The Art Of Submission

I spend most days scrolling through my Twitter feed or Instagram stories and often see tweets and quotes that talk about the negative connotations attached to the word submission. The idea of submitting to anything, be it a person or a thing, in our world today can be associated with weakness. As I was writing some of the songs on this EP, God whispered words of assurance that ‘submission is not actually a bad thing'. It made me explore why we are not willing to submit sometimes. I found that the main reason is we don’t believe in what we’re submitting to. As humans, we believe in ourselves, and our ways more than we do anything else. The root word of submit means ‘to lower, reduce, yield.’ The meaning of submit is ‘to accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person.’ You can only yield to something or someone you trust.

The truth is, for many of us, stuff hasn’t been working out for us because we refuse to yield (or submit) to the will God has for us. Submitting to God's will and plan for your life is saying yes, even when you don’t understand, taking the bold step to accept the opportunities he’s blessing you with, even though you’re shy or afraid. To submit to God sometimes means saying "Lord, I’ve tried it my way but it’s not working. I don’t know it all, lead the way". If we know he has great plans for our lives, why should we be worried about following him? (Proverbs 3:5-6).

That is not to say that you shouldn’t have your ideas and plans, but our father created the heavens and the earth and knows every hair on your head. What makes you think submitting to his will and his ways won’t produce a great outcome? Submitting to the will of God is simply letting His Holy Spirit have His way in our lives. We must choose to submit to God for the process of learning, in order to grow spiritually. Our faith is made stronger in surrendering our hearts to the God who knows the beginning, middle, and the end (Isaiah 46:10; Psalm 139:18).

Thank you, Father, because through this devotional you are going to help me follow the path you have for my life. Help me to trust you in everything.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

The Art of Submission

This plan seeks to unwrap what it truly means to submit to God and what that looks like for us as his children. The bible plan is inspired by Gospel singer, Uchenna’s new EP titled The Art Of Submission. The plan speaks on themes such as faith, trust, and God's love and how each of these plays a part in how we submit to his will for us.
