It's the Most Stressful Time of the YearSample
Inability to Rest
Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
As we move into the last day of our study, we land on an unusual topic in our "inability to rest." It seems crazy to think that we can't seem to find rest, but that's just what has happened. At the same time, we are giving the nod toward Christmas and the hectic schedule we've created for ourselves. But we are just as frazzled during the rest of the year.
We don't need Christmas to run us ragged; we do a great job of that the other 364 days of the year.
What can we do to help find rest?
As always, God's word has just the wisdom and encouragement we need.
"Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
How much of our life is spent coming to Jesus? We are so busy doing life that we may be missing the restful life. Notice Jesus said I will give you rest. Rest is not found in getting ahead of our schedule; it's found in Jesus.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Take His yoke indicates that there is some trust in Jesus that needs to take place. He says, "learn from me," which indicates there is something we need to learn from Jesus. He mentions gentle and humbleness in the heart. He says we will find rest for our souls. Just reading that verse feels relaxing.
Uncommen Questions:
Do you need to come to Jesus?
Have you taken his yoke upon you?
Are you finding rest for your soul?
Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge us all to change our focus this Christmas season. In fact, I challenge us all to change our direction throughout the year and put it on Jesus. There is Joy, Love, Peace and Rest waiting for us.
