Wives need to be encouraged to embrace everything the Bible teaches about being a godly wife, including submission to her husband. She is to be a godly helper walking alongside her husband as a wise counselor. A woman will glorify God, and best love her husband and her children when she embraces the role that God has assigned her in the Scriptures.

The wife is to be a helper. God made her a helper for Adam in the very beginning. We must remember that there is a Creator and we are His creation. There is a Designer and we are His design. We might want to change things in the Bible to be more in accordance with the times we are living, but the Bible was written by the Creator, the Designer of our lives. If we want to live our lives to the fullest, the way we were created to live them, we cannot change what the Creator created. We need to accept God’s design and live accordingly. 

When Peter talks about how wives should conduct themselves in life, he is not teaching the complete silence of the wife. Sometimes people can take Peter’s teachings to mean that she is to be completely silent, but hers is not meant to be a voiceless submission. The passage is more likely reminding a woman that her most forceful influence will not be her words, but her example.

However, if we take a closer look at the Scriptures, they give wives the same advice that is given to husbands. Just as the husband must not lord over her but be an example to her, so a wife exerts influence on her husband, not primarily through her words, but by her example. 

A good wife, according to the Bible, is to be submissive, to be a helper, to walk alongside her husband, and be a wise counselor.
