DAY 2 OF 5

How You See Yourself

2 Corinthians 13:5 "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!"

On our first day, we looked at ourselves to see if we were too puffed up or if we were too critical of ourselves. Today, we are called to test ourselves to see who we are in Christ Jesus and see if we pass or fail.

In a world full of information, we are sorely missing wisdom. Some people have fooled themselves into thinking they are in Christ but are not. They have been swept up in false teaching, an experience, or even in attending church only to find that they have not repented of their sin. We are so blessed to have God's Word at our fingertips to learn His will for our lives. When we spend time in the Word, we compare how we live to how we've been called to live. If that does not match, we are failing the test.

Paul talked to the church at Corinth and challenged them to examine themselves in light of Christ. What's interesting is that Paul was speaking to "believers" about examining themselves. You'd think believers would be working on being more like Christ every day. But even though we have heard the good news of salvation, we tend to weave in our own agenda. This may lead to bad habits that can affect our walk with Christ without us even knowing it. For example, we get used to not reading the Word or attending worship service; we don't pray, but still think we are in line with Christ.

It takes someone like Paul to come along and challenge us to reevaluate our faith and make sure we are doing what we should. But as you can see, if we don't spend time in the Word, we miss lessons like this. This is the power of scripture and how it relates to and influences many areas of our life. So are we receptive to hear the message and to take steps to make the needed adjustments to our walk?

Uncommen Questions:

When was the last time you examined your walk with Christ?

Does it line up with what scripture says?

If not, what are you doing to correct that?

Uncommen Challenge:

Challenge: you and I to examine our faith, see how it lines up with Christ and make adjustments accordingly.

About this Plan

Uncommen: A Distorted View

We take mirrors for granted these days as they are so commonplace in our everyday lives. But original mirrors were not the reflective glass we are used to today but rather polished stone, gold, or even brass. These tended to be murky, distorted surfaces that didn't do a very good job of reflecting the true self. Join us as we adjust our perspective.
