The Light Shines in the Darkness

DAY 16 OF 31

Jesus revealed his glory through supernatural signs

“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which He revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” (John 2:11, NIV)

During his three years of ministry, Jesus revealed Himself in various ways. He preached a lot, He told parables, but He also performed miracles. Some of these miracles are recorded by John. At the end of his book, he remarks: “Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25). So, John only selected a few “signs” that are essential for knowing Jesus. These include Jesus turning water into wine (more about that tomorrow…), how He healed incurably ill people and provided food for thousands of hungry people, and how He raised a man from the dead. Every sign gives us a glimpse of Who Jesus is. These signs should be enough for us, just as for the people back then, to believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah/Christ and the Son of God. As we read John 7:31, “Many of the people believed in him. They said, ‘When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?’”.

Do you believe the miracles recorded in the Bible really happened? Does that matter to you?
