How to Live an Epic Life

DAY 8 OF 10

In this quest to discover how to be epic, we have looked at the enormity of God’s love. We have seen He is for us, He is on our side, and nothing can separate or break the bond we have with Him. So, with all that as a foundation, how can we be epic?

Are you ready for the secret? It is an epic secret.

The secret to being epic … is to not try to be epic.

In Matthew 23, Jesus is talking to the multitude, and He tells them to not be like the scribes and the Pharisees. They loved the uppermost rooms at the feasts and wanted to sit in Moses’ seat. They were religious because it gave them prestige, position, and probably money. Unfortunately, that is what a lot of religion is about.

If you see someone desiring the highest positions and chief seats, that person does not understand how to be epic. Being epic is not about elevating yourself. It is not about earning the championship rings or Hollywood statues.

That is not how you become epic, according to God. Jesus said in Matthew 23:12 whoever exalts himself will be abased or brought down. Isn’t that what happened in the Garden of Eden? Everything was created perfect until man exalted himself and bought into the promise of Satan’s lie he would be like God. It all stems from pride.

The good news though is Jesus said if you will humble yourself, you will be exalted. So, the key to being epic in life is to not try to be epic. Rather, the key is to humble yourself and be a servant.

Have you fallen for the lie of elevating yourself? Are you always trying to promote yourself and get ahead? Ask the Lord today to help you follow His example of humility.
