Evangelism: Sharing the Good News

DAY 2 OF 7

Evangelism starts with God

I think one of the reasons we struggle with evangelism is because we think it all depends on us. Thankfully, that's not true; evangelism starts and finishes with God, we're just the vessels in the task at hand. 'Salvation is of the Lord', Jonah reminds us, and therefore salvation is not, thankfully, of ourselves. (Jonah 2:9)

If salvation depended upon us, humanity would be in an even worse state than we already are. We have no power to save anyone, and, if we're honest, we don't often have hearts that long to see souls saved. God saw our need for good news. (Isaiah 59:16) He knew us before the creation of the world. After the Fall, God already had a plan for restoration:  God knew that He must come.  Jesus is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world - for us (1 Peter 1:18-21)!

God doesn't ask us to necessarily create some gospel event. He just asks us to report His message to whoever will listen. God came down to earth so that we can ascend to heaven. It's ultimately down to, and up to, Him.

The gospel isn't that someone tells us some nice story; it's that God created enduringly good news by sending His Son to save us from perishing, and to give us everlasting life. All we need to do is to share this good news!

Do you believe the gospel is of God and not just a manmade invention?

'Lord, we're thankful that the gospel is Yours and not ours. But we're also grateful that we can enjoy it, through faith in You. Please help us to do so, for Your glory, Amen.'

About this Plan

Evangelism: Sharing the Good News

Evangelism: the very word strikes fear into the hearts of many ordinary Christians. We often might have a legalistic sense of duty to do it; but isn't evangelism just for those unusual people who are gifted at it? This plan seeks to reclaim evangelism as the sharing of good news that can be delightful rather than daunting!
