Seven Effective Prayers for Unsaved Husbands

DAY 5 OF 7

“Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense. Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 TPT)

The Apostle Paul, by way of the Holy Spirit, gave husbands instructions on how they are to treat their wives.  Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her. Husbands are to love their wives as they love their own bodies.  Christ sacrificed his life for all mankind.  He went through the worst form of abuse anyone could ever experience for our benefit.  Christ loved us despite our sinful choices and ways. Christ's love toward us is unlimited and unconditional.  It is not based on who we are, what we do, or what we possess.  It is not even based on how much we love him.

This is the way God wants your husband to love you. However, if barriers are blocking his ability to love you in this way, it will not happen.  Your husband’s ability to love others including you is dependent on his ability to love God.  If his love toward you has been fleeting, dry, or limited in its' demonstration, his love for God may be MIA (Missing in Action). In knowing that truth, your prayers will directly speak to him learning how to love God and himself so that he can appropriately love you.  You want your husband to be exposed to the God kind of love, receive it, so then he can present that type of love toward you.

Prayer for your husband’s love characteristics:

Father, I come to you because I need your love to abound in my marriage.  Some barriers have presented themselves in my marriage and are blocking the flow of your abiding love. I know that my husband’s ability to love me is predicated on his ability to love you and himself.  I pray for his heart to be released to love in ways he has never loved before.  I ask that you turn his heart of stone into a heart of flesh making it easier for him to love me.  I pray that the characteristics of love according to 1 Corinthians 13 be released to cover me and my husband so that our marriage can glorify you.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan

Seven Effective Prayers for Unsaved Husbands

God designed husbands to be the lead servants of their homes/marriages. He is to lead his wife and children in the same manner that Christ led the church. When husbands do not know God as their Lord and Savior, they cannot lead by Christ's example. This devotional will provide seven effective prayers wives can pray for their unsaved husbands so that they may come into the knowledge of God's truth.
